20 ways to show him you care
By Ms. Meehan
The Prophet Muhammad (صلى الله
عليه
وسلم)said,
“After fear of Allah, a Believer gains
nothing better for him than a
good wife who obeys him if he
gives her a command,
pleases him if he looks at her,
is true to him if he adjures her to
do something and is sincere
towards him regarding her person
and his property if he is absent.”
(Ibn Majah)
As wives, it is our duty to strive to make our
husbands as happy as possible.
The best way to do this is to show them
how much we care! Here are some useful
tips to re-ignite that spark which may be
missing after a few years of married life:
1. Increase his iman! Use technology to your
advantage! Send your husband Islamic
articles, Qur’anic, ayat or ahadith via e-mail
or text messages (sms-es) every day, or
simply drop him a line to let him know you
are thinking about him when he is away.
2. Mirror, mirror, on the wall… Use toothpaste
to write loving messages on the bathroom
mirror. A simple, “I love you,” will keep him
smiling all day long!
3. Warm him up! On cold winter mornings,
show him some warmth! While he is in the
shower, toss his bath towel into the warm
dryer or hang it onto the radiator rack. He
will feel so pampered!
4.Just Pack It! Does your husband have a
long commute to work? Pack him a healthy
breakfast to go each morning. Fill a small
tote with his favorite muffins and a thermos
of hot coffee or tea.
5. Pamper him! Schedule a home spa day for
him at least once a month! Give him a
manicure, pedicure, facial, and even a full
body wrap! Let him relax all day long!
6.Love in his pocket… Choose 1 week out of
every month to fill his pockets with
romantic messages! Cut hearts out of
coloured paper and write personal
messages on them. Insert a heart into his
pocket every day, when he’s not looking.
7. Put your best face forward!
Make an effort to look your best in your
husband’s presence .
8. Turn your home into a haven. Light candles
and incense in the evenings to create an
inviting ambiance. Your husband will love
the relaxing glow of the candles and the
aromatherapy of the incense!
9. Always try to gauge the type of mood he is
in… If he is in a good mood, then feel free
to complain about your day – within limits
of course! But if you sense he is in a bad
mood, try not to overburden him with too
many complaints. Your complaining about
how naughty the kids were or the broken
washing machine will only overwhelm him.
And it will also help to set a gloomy tone
for the rest of your evening. Try to save
your complaints for a time when he can
cope with them better.
10. The way to a man’s heart… We all know
that the easiest way to a man’s heart is
through his stomach, so fill his belly with
yummy home cooked meals (make sure
they are healthy though). Master the
preparation of his favourite dishes and
make them often (and be big-hearted
enough to learn them from his mum, if she
does them best!)
11. Be his Stress-Buster! Master the art of
massage! Research massage techniques
from books at your local library.
Learn to massage away the stiffness from
his tired muscles.
12. Be his dream weaver! Has your
husband dreamt of sailing a boat? Or
going on a rock climbing expedition?
Make his dreams come true! Rent a
boat for the day or enroll him in an
educational course.
13. Be Playful! Light heartedness between
mates is the key to a blissful marriage.
Tickle him, tell him a funny joke or just do
anything silly to make him laugh! The
reward will completely outweigh the effort!
14. Be his Salah-Saver! If he struggles with
performing one or more of the 5 daily
prayers, then take it upon yourself to help
save his salah. Is it difficult for him to wake
up for Fajr? If so, do your best to coax him
into going to bed early. Set an alarm clock
so that you can both wake up for Fajr
together.
15. Be his problem solver! If you know he is
losing sleep over a problem, try your
best to assist him in solving it.
Has he been searching for a low-priced,
high-quality product? Volunteer to
telephone stores or use the net to
compare prices.
16. Keep him healthy! Schedule
annual physicals for him with
his doctor. Make sure that
you go with him so he has
some support.
17. Do HIS chores! Is there a loathsome chore that your husband just hates
doing?
Does he despise garbage duty or cleaning out the gutters?
Surprise him and do it yourself!
18. Cool things down! On hot summer days, greet him at the door
with an ice-cold fruity beverage. Add umbrellas and sliced fruit for a
whimsical flare!
19. R-E-S-P-E-C-T! One of the best ways to show your husband you
care for him is to respect him and to encourage your children to
respect him.
20. G-R-A-T-I-T-U-D-E! Be thankful to him for the little and big things he
does for you, and teach your children to be thankful to their father.
